Customizing your menu

We love simplicity and variety. We especially love it when they come together well. Like in great programmed workouts and classes - someone else is designing for you, the experience is always different, but you can still modify if you wish.

We take a similar approach with our food - a new mix of tasty meals for you every week (from a big pool of 600+ choices), no choice-making required on your end, but two types of simple customization there for you if you need it:

“When you want it” menu modification Set-it-and-forget-it is great but say you’re looking at the upcoming week’s menu on the blog and you a) see a meal you don’t want or b) see a meal you really want…so much so that you’d like multiple. No sweat, use our Mod Your Menu tool to adjust the meals you receive (mods accepted until Wednesday midnight order deadline). Order now, then mod away. Note that the Mod’er as we like to call it is currently only available for our Paleo line. We’ll let you know when we’ve extended the functionality to our Mixitarian and Vegetarian lines.

Permanent substitutions for ingredients you just can’t eat - Got a specific ingredient you’re allergic to or can’t eat? Try a standing substitution request which allows for automatic swapping out of the most common protein types and allergens that folks request to avoid, along with other items (can anyone say beets?) we’ve seen folks frequently step around. Set your substitutions when you place your order (we used to do this through a separate form, no more) and we’ll substitute any meals containing the no-no item with another meal from the same delivery. A few key notes:

  • Substitutions requests are by order, not by user account - So for recurring orders it’s easy as pie. Just add the sub request to your orders (you can have different ones for different orders under your account) and we’ll handle the rest. But for one-time orders you’ll have to re-enter the request the next time you create an order.
  • Meal swapping results - Substitutions mean you sometimes will get more than one of the same meal in a delivery but works out pretty well as a first step on the customization journey. If you need finer grain control than the list provides, you can always use the Mod Your Menu tool to dig out other ingredients.
