Stay at Home Dad Qualifies for Masters

We love sharing stories of movement and change from across the fitness landscape… this week the spotlight is on CrossFit athlete, coach and dad Mike Grabowski.

Mike started training at Potomac CrossFit in 2010 at the age of 34 and since then has quit his job to stay at home with his twins Mollie and Nola. He's also started coaching part time at Patriot CrossFit and layers additional training on top of the CrossFit classes he attends five days a week.

He ended up placing 137th out of 21,000 competitors (which translates to top 1% in the world) in his age group (40-44). This allowed him a shot at the Masters Qualifier workouts. If he finished in the top 20, he'd be allowed to participate in the CrossFit Games.

At the end of the Masters Qualifier he finished 145th, outside of where he needed to be in order to place for the Games. But he says "This is awesome, this makes me feel like an athlete again. I like challenging myself. You can keep coming in here and getting better".

When a lot of folks are settling into middle age, Mike keeps pushing. He says "Everybody tells you you go down hill faster and faster....but you just keep pluggin away and you do it and you can look back and see you came a long way."

Be on the lookout next year for Mike as he continues to attack his weaknesses and competes in next years Masters division.
