Our Favorite Workout Gear (that travels light)
Erin, our HQ Marketing Muse, is a huge gear nerd who is super into body weight strength training in all its forms and formats.
I like knowing I can get a good workout wherever, whenever. I've been injured a lot too so I've a growing collection of pre and post workout gear. Here's what I have in my gym bag regularly for before, during, and after workout.
Lacrosse ball/tennis ball: For rolling out my feet, hamstrings and calves, it releases tension in muscles and fascia in the feet, induces blood flow, balance, and a more grounded connection.
Yoga blocks: Arranged in different positions, can help you to open up your chest, shoulders, and hips.
Pull-up/chin-up bands: Gives me a moderate to light assist with pull ups and chin up so I can focus on building and using the right muscles for the job. They travel well and work miracles in strengthening the back and shoulders when used a few times per week.
Gymnastic rings: Are easy to mount and great for gymnastic strength training and building all the small muscles in and around the shoulders, plus they're relatively inexpensive.
Mini exercise ball: I use this for transverse abdominal work, fast results if you stay consistent. Also light and travels easy.
Muscle stick: I use this mainly for rolling out tight quads, calves, and IT band.
Yoga Belt: Provides stability and resistance for post-workout stretch.
VEGA one a tasty protein shake, powered by plant protein (20 grams), that's perfect for the post-workout fuel window.
Paul our Online Experience Whisperer, is into rock climbing, back flips, slack lines and really any outdoor activity that requires a bunch of skill and core strength.
My typical bag/trunk has a chalk bag, climbing shoes, belay device, and a few carabiners. I just embrace the messiness of gym trunk, complete with climbing gear, yoga mats, knee braces, stretching bands, and the occasional car window cleaner. (Dust/dirt/foliage from adventures are among the many trunk treasures)
Tao Tao is our SF Ops Maven who digs the CrossFit as her main workout, running, swimming, intense biking among many other awesome things.
All the necessary essentials for CrossFit, running, and swimming in my bag.
RPM Rope: One of the best speed ropes for double unders. It's much lighter and the grips fit better in my hands.
Nike Romaleos: I'm a Nike lover. These are key for Olympic lifting. I also WOD in Nike Metcons and of course I carry a Nike bag.
Rehbands: I started using these about a year ago, best decision I ever made. They keep my knees warm during workouts.
Sox Box Socks: Wouldn't rope climb without these babies.
TYR: for post workout swim.
Amanda is our DC Community Builder, with a background in competitive track and field, she knows how to travel with the workout goods. Now she's into CrossFit and a lover of tough yoga classes.
Everything I need for CrossFit, weight training, yoga is in my bag. I'm ready for anything.
Wireless Headphones: You wouldn't think being cord-free makes much of a difference, but you'll be surprised to see how freeing it is.
Nike Metcons: As a former heptathlete I'm used to carrying around ten different pairs of shoes while training but the Nike Metcons are so versatile I can wear them in the weight room, on the track, and doing plyos.
iPhone tripod: I like to film my workouts and share them with my personal trainer so he can give me tips on how to improve. This Tripod can wrap around just about anything.
Hair tie bracelet: Once you enter your third decade the idea of having a hair tie tethered to your wrist 24/7 just gets old plus it's slightly unattractive. Bought this bracelet that can perfectly hide/hold my hair tie. (great gift idea for your workout buddy)
Workout journal: Writing down all of my workouts in advance for the week keeps me on track.
Jade yoga mat: Not only is this mat extra thick and has great grip, it comes in extra long now savasana is no problem for this 5'11 yogi.
Danielle is our DC Culinary Manager who can basically kick all our butts at any random workout. She's a little ball of power who loves running and traveling by bike.
My gym bag is simple: Garmin Forerunner 10 (in my fave color), iPod nano w/ headphones, inhaler, and gym card. I need to travel super light when I run or bike so it's really just the necessities.
Garmin Forerunner: Hands down the best watch for me. If you want a watch that is great for marathon training and gives you pace, distance, and time in real time, check this one out. The price is right too.
iPod Nano 6th Gen: probably going to cry when this thing breaks, it is the perfect size and has radio!! I love it, maybe I'll just buy them up on Ebay.
Nike bag: #vintage Is from 2003 it's like my fitness blanky I am never getting rid of this thing.
Don't forget to send us your workout gear faves on social. Stay moving,
Erin and the PS crew
