Here’s the low down on recycling/reusing your home delivery packaging. In case you forgot to leave it out for us to pickup or just have a strong jones for DIY in all things. The whole shooting match is recyclable in one sort or another, so have at it:
Meal containers – Rinse ‘em out, stack and then send off to recycling. We’re partial to the Gimme 5 drop off program which you can find at local Whole Whole Foods stores, but most municipalities round here take these #5 plastics as well.
Freezer packs – These little chillers are made of non-toxic and biodegradable material inside of recyclable plastic. So you can reuse them or just leave in your sink to melt. Then slit open, pour liquid down the drain and recycle the plastic pouch.
Insulator sleeve – Made from cotton-enhanced recycled fibers, the insulation material in these sleeves is biodegradable within a year. So best bet here is to remove it from the plastic sleeve and out it can go to compost or with the rest of your biodegradable material headed for the landfill. Plastic outer layer can go in recycling for #4’s.
Box – Easiest of all, our corrugated boxes are made from 95% SFI- (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified sources and can go out with regular recycling or be taken to your local recycling center.
Wax & Kraft Paper – Also super easy and can go out with regular recycling or be taken to your local recycling center.
