Fire Breather BBQ shares grilling know-how

Posted by Robert Morton on 5/19/15 2:36 PM

Grilling season's a great time to share some know-how on brewing up super fine barbeque. For that, and to help you get to know another of the great local chefs in the Power Supply chef network, we turn to Jeff and Kat, co-founder’s of Fire Breather BBQ, one of Southern California’s top clean eating-friendly catering companies.

Reminder, if you're eating Power Supply in LA, you can get your name in the hat for a private tasting with Fire Breather for you and 5 friends by sharing your small eating and moving wins in our #mypowermoment campaign (easy and fun to do)

We caught up with Jeff and Kat at an event recently where they showed us some of their delicious barbeque in progress and shared this great recipe and grilling tips for BBQ Tri-Tip (also inline below).

Anybody else feeling the need for some new bits of inspiration, some fresh how-to nuggets right about now on the eating and moving fronts?

The structured stuff of the New-yearsy period has come and gone. School will soon let out. Summer life is on the brain, but still pretty far out. All in all sort of a tweener spot in the calendar when it comes to doing stuff that’ll help you feel great.

High time we think for getting a little shareapalooza going on small wins. Those little steps each of us takes that might lead to bigger changes… steps that if shared might spark something for a fellow traveler looking to shake things up too.

Here's how to play…

Posted by Robert Morton on 5/5/15 8:08 AM

Hard to think of something that fires our engines more than stories of folks who’ve dialed in their eating and moving, seen great things happen in their lives as a result, and provided some inspiration for others along the way.

None better in that category than the one we want to share today… the tale of Bike Like a Girl, an awesome group of cyclists setting out to become just the second 8-woman team to conquer the 3,020 mile (yes, thousand) Race Across America from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.

One of the things I missed most when I started avoiding flour was that paragon of versatility… the soft tortilla/wrap. From crepes, to burritos to soft tacos and enchiladas, a good wrap opens up so many tasty and easy to prepare goodies.

Ridiculously fast and good new entry into the no gluten, no dairy breakfast routine.. try this, seriously.  3 minutes to yum in even the busiest of morns (like mine this AM getting 3 kids and us two old folks out the door).  Speaking of kids, good reviews from them too... "THAT is super good!" Egg, banana, dark chocolate.

5 easy power foods for the home kitchen

Posted by Robert Morton on 3/17/14 4:00 AM

Google “super foods” and you’ll get a gaggle of lists…top 10, top 16, a top 7? But what about actually putting these punch-packing ingredients to practical use in the everyday maelstrom? Particularly if you're new to this business of going sans gluten and dairy? Here are 5 Power Foods I rely on to fuel my generally time-starved, working out, three-kid-chasing, company-building life. Some of these also showed up in Washingtonian's Food Diary post of a day of my meals, a good quick look at real world day of eating this way.

  • Almond Milk – Easy and fast to make from scratch. It takes 10 minutes, a standard blender and a nut bag (little mesh bag you use to strain the pulp for this and other nut milks…bout $7 on AMZN, nifty little thing, name notwithstanding). This milk alternative is super healthy, tastes great and can power everything from a cereal replacement for gluten-free folks to the best chocolate smoothie shake a sugar-free eater can buy.
