Hi, I'm Erin... just joined the PS gang with the mission of creating, finding and sharing useful info that helps you weave intentional eating and moving more easily into your life. Think of me as a personal reporter of sorts... rounding up easy to consume and thought provoking stuff to support your food/fitness cause.
I follow a pretty strict (not really) journalistic code, see something yummy, say something yummy. Here are a few examples of musings I'm already tinkering with but shout at knowledge@mypowersupply.com with any topics you'd like to see more of.
- "How to” videos on chopping and cooking uncommon fruits and veggies
- A 4 ingredient recipe for energy packed snacks, like the kind you can eat before a workout
- Understand why we like/dislike the way food tastes. Is it based on color, texture, or could we be affected by visual cues we pick up as babies
About me. I'm kind of a Jill of all trades, you may see me in human form working at a farmers market, teaching Barre class, singing/dancing/performing on stage or slurping a protein shake (love plant protein). My favorite flavor of movement is Dance but Barre/Pilates/Yoga are a close second. Going to try Crossfit soon, let you know how that works out.
My why? To make a long story medium... As a kid I struggled with eating. "No Mom, that hurts my stomach I don't want that"...my famous line before every meal. My family chalked it up to being picky. Except the picky thing didn't pass.
All through high school, I was playing softball, running track, singing, acting and dancing. The exterior was churning and burning but things were getting worse on the inside. I remember being diagnosed with every stomach thing under the sun. My heart was heavy with every new diagnosis and prescription.
Fast forward through more food misery while chasing my Broadway dream in NYC, choking down the only thing I could stomach... frozen chalky nutrition shakes. Finally, 15 years removed from my first struggles with food, a friendly accupuncturist in hometown of Austin introduced me to the idea that food could heal more than hurt if I just played around to find the right mix for me.
Into the mix went lots of herbs, teas and new veggies. Out went dairy, gluten, soy, and some meats. Before I knew it I could really eat again and so much of my physical and emotional well being began to return too. There's lots more to share about the trial and error of that journey but suffice to say intentional eating and a whole lot of exploration gave me back my life. I am happier and healthier now than I've ever been.
Which leads right back to joining Power Supply and this role. When I was trying to relearn how to eat well, my favorite part of the process was discovering all the new foods I could eat. I devoured hours of Food Network shows to learn how to cook with unfamiliar foods like leeks, parsley, spaghetti squash, and artichokes. Indeed, every morning for 8 years I wrote the following goal on paper: "I will work at Food Network someday or somewhere equally food focused. I will love what I do.”
Well folks, sans the television piece, goal accomplished. As the content muse for Power Supply I now get to share purposeful food stuff 24/7 and... you guessed it, I love what I do. Let the sharing commence.
